Diabetes UK

'' For anyone with diabetes, whether a child or an adult, a solid family network is an important foundation of support. With 2.6 million people diagnosed with diabetes in the UK, the condition affects not just the person with diabetes but also a huge number of their nearest and dearest. Diabetes UK is delighted to be supporting National Family Week and will help raise awareness of the importance of healthy living. ''

Diabetes UK is the leading charity for the three million people in the UK living with diabetes, funding research, campaigning for better standards of care and helping people living with the condition.

Our mission is to improve the lives of people with diabetes and work towards a future without diabetes. We work for people with diabetes, their carers, family and friends. We provide lots of services to help people live with and manage their diabetes including:

Diabetes UK Careline, a service that provides support and information to people with diabetes as well as friends, family and carers. We can provide information to help you learn more about the condition and how to manage it. Staffed by trained counsellors, The Careline provides a listening ear and the time to talk things through.

Care events – Diabetes UK runs Children and Family Support Holidays and Weekends, which offer a unique opportunity for children and adults to be among people who are living with diabetes. For many, the holidays are the first step to managing their own diabetes.

Information - Our online shop is packed with publications and other items to help people with diabetes to manage their condition. These resources are also used widely by healthcare professionals working in diabetes.

Measure Up Roadshow – The Diabetes UK Measure Up Roadshow travels the UK offering risk assessments for Type 2 diabetes and raising awareness of the risk factors, which can lead to the condition. The Roadshow targets the 500,000 people in the UK who have Type 2 diabetes and don’t know it.

All of this and more is only made possible through donations and the members of Diabetes UK. For more information visit our award winning interactive website at www.diabetes.org.uk offering information on all aspects of diabetes and access to our activities and services.
