Education Otherwise
Education Otherwise is pleased to be taking part in the first National Family Week. We believe that families - whatever their size or make up - lie at the very heart of society. Families should be supported in finding time to spend together, to share activities and to have fun. We believe that children have an equal place in a family and that they deserve the freedom to enjoy family life.

Education Otherwise (EO) is a charitable organisation that has been supporting home educators now for nearly 30 years. We aim to do this through community, information, campaigning, and promotion. We take our name from the Education Act, which states that parents are responsible for their children's education, "either by regular attendance at school or otherwise".
As a charity, we provides support and information for families whose children are being educated outside school, and for those who wish to uphold the freedom of families to take proper responsibility for the education of their children.
EO has never promoted any 'one right way'; our aim has always been to help parents choose the most appropriate form of education for each individual child, the decision being founded on informed choice and full consideration for the wishes and feelings of the child. Since, however, too few people are even aware of their right to home educate, EO has worked to raise public awareness of the fact that, in the UK it is not school, but education, that is compulsory.
