Families Need Fathers

'' Families Need Fathers is glad to be part of National Family Week. We are proud to stand alongside so many organisations with whom we share the belief that, no matter what form they take, families are important and special in many, many different ways. ''

Founded in 1974, Families Need Fathers is a self-help charity which provides information and support on children's issues for separated and divorced parents regardless of gender, background or marital status, as well as grandparents, partners, friends and the extended family. Our main concern is to maintain a child's relationship with both parents during and after family breakdown.

Our support services are based around a national network of volunteers and including over 30 branches around the country, a free telephone helpline, website, online forums and a wide range of publications and literature.

As a campaigning charity, Families Need Fathers is widely recognised as the most knowledgeable representative of parents living apart from their children. Recent campaign successes have included automatic parental responsibility for unmarried fathers on birth certificates (2003), the right of a Litigant in Person to a lay adviser (2007) and the opening of family courts to the media (2008). Families Need Fathers is widely consulted with by government and social welfare organisations and has increasing influence across these sectors.

Families Need Fathers is planning an exciting project celebrating the relationships between fathers and their children to coincide with National Family Week - details to be confirmed soon!
