The Department for Communities and Local Government ‘Fire Kills’ media campaign aims to drive down the number of people who are injured or killed in accidental house fires by raising awareness of key fire safety issues.

Established in 1999, the campaign’s messages are delivered to a huge number of people each year through an extensive range of media activity.  Spearheaded by national advertising, the campaign is underpinned by a comprehensive programme of integrated public relations, sponsorship and partnership marketing activity.

The crucial factor to the campaign’s success is the unique relationship between the national campaign and the local fire and rescue services across the country.  Now an embedded statutory duty, community fire safety is delivered by each fire and rescue service in England in line with their local priorities.  The campaign provides a national foundation for targeting those more vulnerable from fire at the local level.
