National Museums Scotland is Scotland’s national museum service. Our wealth of treasures represent more than two centuries of collecting and take in everything from Scottish and classical archaeology to decorative and applied arts, and from world cultures and social history to science, technology and the natural world.
We welcome visitors to our five national museums located across Scotland:
- National Museum of Scotland, in Edinburgh
- National War Museum, at Edinburgh Castle
- National Museum of Flight, in East Lothian
- National Museum of Rural Life, in East Kilbride
- National Museum of Costume, in Dumfries
Exhibitions and events at these museums draw in more than one million visitors each year, with thousands more taking part in learning activities for all ages. We also host more than 50,000 school groups annually.
A £46 million transformation of the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh is almost complete, and the full museum site will re-open on 29 July 2011. There will be 16 new galleries to display thousands of treasures not seen for decades, as well as a new learning centre, hands-on discovery areas and much more.
