School-Home Support
Supporting children and families and strengthening those relationships with schools is central to the work of SHS. That’s why we passionately support the work of National Family Week. Our vision is that all children have the support they need to thrive and achieve. With partners like National Family Week and the charities that share our vision, we believe we can make a collective and significant, positive difference to society."

Bringing our work to life
One recent example involved Jamie who was a very bright but very anxious nine year old
Jamie’s teacher referred him to the SHS practitioner in school, Jamie was clearly capable of doing well in school, but his nervousness was holding him back and he would often break down crying.
After a number of one to one sessions through play therapy, it transpired that Jamie had regularly witnessed his mum being threatened and beaten by his stepfather. Jamie was terrified of his stepfather and didn’t know how to help his mum.
The SHS practitioner managed to speak to Jamie’s mum at the school gate one day and after a number of conversations and an introduction to a domestic violence support service, Jamie’s mum built up the courage to leave her partner.
Today, Jamie is a changed boy. He now attends school much happier and brighter and his self-confidence has dramatically improved.

SHS is a national charity that places highly trained practitioners in schools to support children and families, whatever they’re going through.
We have supported thousands of children and families through emotional and practical difficulties for over 25 years, building supportive, trusting relationships that enable them to get the most from their education.
Because SHS practitioners are independent and based in school we are able to work with children, young people and families to help them identify and resolve issues before they become bigger problems. The children, young people and families that we work with can be referred to practitioners by class teachers, children themselves, parents, or even friends.
Fundamentally, SHS empowers vulnerable families to manage the challenges they face, giving them support along the way whilst working in partnership with schools, local authorities and other third sector agencies.
All individuals in SHS case studies are guaranteed complete confidentiality To protect that trust, names and details of individuals featured have been changed and pictures are posed by models. The essential details, however, are true.
